Writing a college essay can be one of the most frightening high school experiences. Use these doâs and donâts, as well as our other essay writing tips, and youâll be in good shape. On that note, when picking a topic for answering a prompt, keep in mind that the admission officers have read hundreds if not thousands of application essays. This means youâll want to avoid generic topics like âI worked hard to balance my schedule.â What is something unique about you? In fact, one can never know what to expect from a college admissions essay. No book is going to teach a student how to craft a compelling, clever and concise essay. Students should be warned how competitive college admission essay writing has become. Another way to think about an essay topic is to think about those small moments that might even seem mundane on the surface, but that have had a big impact on their life. Describe a moment where it may seem that nothing exciting was happening to an outside observer, but that meant a great deal to the student. The idea behind the essay is for colleges to be able to learn something about the student that they couldnât have learned through the rest of the application. The essay is where the college can discover what makes this particular student unique and interesting. Sadly, many students tear their ACL each sports season and then have to rehab it. Non-native English speakers, particularly, benefit from this kind of editing. Almost all graduate school students now hire pros to edit their essays. Be honest with yourself and where you will work best. Set a writing schedule.Allocate a specific and significant amount of time each week for writing. Read through your essay and look for opportunities to explore how your experience may be connected to historical, literary or philosophical ideas you care about. Breaks keep the mind fresh and allow us to be more productive over a longer duration of time. Structure your breaks into your work schedule and be deliberate about how you spend them. It turned into a great essay topic for a student interested in studying diplomacy. In addition to reading it aloud, you can also try copying and pasting it into Google Translate. Hearing your essay emphasizes any mistakes that may have crept through. There is a strange distinction between reading on your computer and reading on paper. You have gone through theâ"often gruelingâ"process of crafting a competitive admission essay. The experience might be a high school course, a job, a relationship, or an extracurricular activity. Be sure to explain how this experience led to your setting the goals you now have for yourself, and why you think the academic program for which you are applying will help you to reach those goals. There are hundreds of possible topics that you can be asked to write an essay on. If you loved the Grand Canyon, for example, write down three specific reasons why, aside from the grandeur and beauty that everyone loves. Describe an accomplishment that you had to struggle to achieve. Include what it was, how you tackled it, and how it changed you. Describe and evaluate one experience that significantly influenced your academic interests. Drive your essayâs success by drawing the reader into your story with a great first line.If not immediately a scene, consider using a jarring fact or statement that requires explanation. Consider this your hook to grab the admission officer's attention. Starting with an anecdote that puts the reader in to the action right away often works best. One brainstorming technique is to identify several tangible objects that have special significance for you. If you dig deep enough there is almost always a great and revealing story in one of them. The deeper you go, the better. For your anecdotes, focus on specific details. You might not have enough space to tell your entire life story, but if you focus on a couple of examples, it can make your essay come to life. Stay tuned, receive discounts and valuable admissions-related information. Although they're phrased differently from college to college, certain essay question types appear routinely. Be persuasive in showing the reader you are deserving of admission. Include school activities; awards, honors, and offices held; community services; jobs; and travel. Note your strongest impressions and how they affected you. Now that you have completed your edits, revisions, and rewrites, conduct your final review. For the final review, focus on formatting, spelling and grammar, and punctuation. A mixed metaphor, the use of multiples metaphors at a single time, detracts from the narrative. Likewise, dissimilar metaphors used in rapid succession confuse the reader. One of the most important qualities/values selective colleges look for in an applicant is curiosity. This just means the one you are going to explore first. Remember, while you want your essay to make an impact, your topic does not need to be earth shattering or include the biggest hardship. The best essays are often built on seemingly ordinary experiences like shopping at Costco or baking a cheesecake. Donât let the prompts constrict your thinking on what is appropriate for a college essay, however.
Top 10 Tips For College Admissions Essays
Top 10 Tips For College Admissions Essays My family bought three copies so my mom, my dad and I could all read it immediately. Rowlingâs stories about a boy growing up, having misadventures and facing his destiny enraptured me, but the real witchcraft was in her words. Eventually the couple is able to guide themselves into ever more elaborate notations as they attempt to build proofs to solidify these connected ideas about numbers. The book goes surprisingly far into defining numbers, including advanced concepts such as infinitesimals and the different levels of infinity. This helped me to better understand what numbers are and that I had not appreciated all of the work that had gone into defining them for our use today. In this way they were Socrates-- and I was the student who ended up understanding more than I anticipated, or was expected to, because of the way I was carefully led by the author and his characters. This gives me hope that every individual holds ultimate power over her or his own life. They can decide if it is most meaningful to live with dignity, or with kindness, or with passion. Whatever the ultimate outcome, if they have made choices based on their principles, their ending is happy. The story does not shy away from the dark and confusing. They were puzzles and fascinating in a way that other math wasnât. He said only understanding yourself and your enemy guarantees victory. He said winning without fighting is the greatest victory. I think we canât resolve conflicts, avoid wars, or maintain stability without understanding ourselves and our neighbors. Some of our neighbors become citizens of our country and permanently change and enrich our national identity. Western military personnel and aid workers are side-by-side with tribal fighters and indigenous community leaders, combating terrorism, lawlessness, and poverty. We are becoming a rich gumbo, not a homogenous puree. Rowlingâs Harry Potter series was published, I was in third grade. Just death, of everyone and everything, as Aslan, the Jesus-like lion and creator of Narnia, leads the dead spirits of all Narnians, including most of the main characters, toâ¦Narnia. Where, as the characters describe, the world was exactly the same as Narniaâ¦but Truer. I, all artists, and those seeking some sort of universal truth, must try to achieve that purest, most visceral understanding. That idea, presented in Platoâs work, had not yet become clear to me, until I finished reading The Last Battle. It was as if the world finally came to terms with your mind. Like waking up from a dream to realize a truer, better world, the Narnians were led to the truest and most awoken state. It is a simple parable that reminds of Platoâs Allegory of the Cave, where one man emerges from a lifetime of staring at shadows dancing on a cave wall to a real and vibrant and three-dimensional world. There are no other works that best exemplify that power of words and ideas have had on my life and my outlook on it. C.S. Lewis himself was a big fan of Plato; his works were the key that allowed me to decipher the meaning encoded in the Plato that I had read. The Last Battle was the spark that gave me hope, Platoâs Allegory of the Cave gave me strength, and Platoâs Republic is what gave me the intellectual confidence in the presence of the ideal and the universal. His ability to so perfectly enunciate why we must never lose hope, and always struggle towards the ideal. I think understanding is more important than ever, because people of almost any culture can be found in almost every country. Some of our neighbors have F1 visas and sit next to us in school. It was a simple interpretation of heaven, but it struck me. Reading Jane Eyre gave me a vocabulary with which to contemplate my own principles. I find it useful to see my own traits and philosophies in a character, where I can examine them with greater clarity than if I were peering directly into my own mind. I finished re-reading the book in late December and the experience was well timed. I had read Platoâs Republic, his Allegory of the Cave, and various dialogues in my sophomore year; I was surprisingly only finishing the Narnia series in my junior year. The end of the book, and thus the Narnia series, is death.

College Admission Essay Topics To Avoid
College Admission Essay Topics To Avoid From a narrative perspective, consider using this experience as a jumping-off point for a bigger lesson about life or education, and then return to this experience towards the end of your essay. This narrative structure presents an excellent way to frame a story and is common in many successful admissions essays. The gates of academia will open much easier with a strong college or university admissions essay. This is the greatest part that requires a lot of time and effort. Student should relate the topic to the body text to make it complete, coherent and worth to read. However, in most cases, this is not the recommended format for an application essay. Now that you have the outline as your guiding light to use when writing your essay, it is time to write it. It is said that a writer is only as good as his rewrites, and this is how you are going to hack this essay. First, write down a rough draft without going back to edit anything. After you are done, read through it while noting the mistakes. Your college essay should reflect your authentic speaking voice, but that doesn't mean that you can write it like a lengthy text message. There's simply no excuse for any major grammatical or spelling errors on your essay. After you've completed your essay, go over it with a fine-toothed comb to look for any technical errors. A second pair of eyes can be essential; sometimes, writers are blind to their own mistakes. If you and your helper can't agree on the proper grammar for a particular phrase, rewrite the phrase to avoid the thorny issue. Admission essays are written for a certain purpose. The purpose is for the Admission Board to have a proper understanding of the personalities, goals and inspirations of the students they select to enrich their student body. They need to know what type of person you are and whether you are suitable for their organization. Prove that your thoughts are important and add relevant facts from your life, for instance personal challenges, lessons, fails, history of success. But be attentive to add only appropriate information. Also take the time to read your essay aloud; certain phrases may sound fine in your head, but hearing them spoken can highlight awkward phrasing or unclear wording. Before you begin to write, brainstorm some ideas. Most likely, the university gave you a prompt or a choice of prompts to write about. Take your time to carefully consider each prompt. If you feel yourself drawn to a particular prompt, think about why you're being drawn to it. Reflect on your life to find any personal anecdotes that work well with that prompt. The template is there as an aid to your creativity, not a restriction. Use the sample college admission essay template as a scaffolding to build the rest of your essay around, rather than a fence to keep your thoughts contained. College admissions officers see hundreds of essays every year, and you do yourself no favors if you adhere slavishly to a template that the officers have seen before. Depart from the sample essay for college admission whenever you feel that it would improve your essay. If your examples have nothing common with the topic then all the paper may go to trash and the admission will be unlikely. In first sentences students have to introduce themselves or the topic they want to dwell on. You won't score extra point with the admissions department for finishing your essay in an hour. Unless you've helped write the State of the Union, your admissions essay will likely be the most influential essay you've written so far, at least as it relates to your own life. Grades and other attributes are of course, given preference, but a well written essay can tip the scales in your favour regardless of whether the student has low grades. Having a few extra pairs of eyes to read your essay is one of the best forms of college admission essay help. Ask your proofreaders to specifically look for grammar and spelling errors. Your assistants can also make suggestions on the content, such as identifying areas that need more detail or pointing out where you've written too much. Parents and teachers are good candidates for this task, but you can also make use of a college consultant for an experienced proofreader with specialized knowledge of the admissions process. Thatâs why it is important to pick out a proper topic and take time to think of the structure and the essence of the essay. But donât forget that admission essay is totally about you as a person.

Important Things To Learn About College Admission Essay Examples
Important Things To Learn About College Admission Essay Examples Here are a few dos and donâts in summary of this article. If you are stuck and cannot find a way to shorten your essay, try the necessity test. Take out every sentence in your essay to test whether your point has become weaker without it. Your Common Application essay must be between 250 words and 650 words. The version of theCommon Application has an essay length limit of 650 words and a minimum length of 250 words. This may seem difficult, but it is important to provide only the details that are necessary for understanding the main idea of your essay. If you cannot find a way to fit supporting evidence in just one or two sentences, use a different example altogether. It is better to have one or two well-articulated and supported points than many good points that are poorly supported. Be sure that your essay meets the word and page length requirement of the prompt. These points should prove useful in guiding you through composing a short essay. Conclusions are important, but you do not waste time and space rehashing points that were already made. While we always recommend not getting sidetracked in a 5-6 paragraph essay, it is even more crucial that you do not allow yourself to stray away from the point in a short essay. Any sentence that is not directly relevant to your thesis not only weakens your argument but also takes up valuable space. Try to limit the amount of sentences dedicated to supporting evidence. If possible, have one sentence rather than two citing a story, anecdote, or example. This limit has remained unchanged for the past several years. Learn how important this word limit is and how to make the most of your 650 words. How to conclude an essay A strong conclusion ties together your main points, shows why your argument matters, and opens broader questions. How to write a paragraph Each paragraph in your paper should focus on one central point. In other words, when all else is equal between competing applicants, a compelling essay can make the difference. A powerful, well-written essay can also tip the balance for a marginal applicant. Your opening paragraph should introduce the subject matter and the points you intend to make. They should give some background to support the thesis statement youâll make at the end of the introduction. Once you have a clearer vision for your central idea or argument, itâs time to organize your info-dump. Prune out anything irrelevant and organize your outline into the classic structure. In general, the length of an essay does not determine its effectiveness. If you have answered the prompt in its entirety and feel proud of your work, there is no need to stress about any particular word count. Do not pad your essay with filler content and tautologies to stretch it out, and on the flip side, don't leave important sections out in the interest of keeping the essay brief. There are certain topics that require a lot of room for explanation, so be careful not to choose a topic for your essay that will require too much evidence to support. It is important to delineate the entirety of your argument at the very beginning of the paragraph. You want your message to be extremely accessible, so make it snappy! Do not wait until the end of the paragraphâ"and definitely not until the end of the essayâ"to present your argument. Suggest that they seek essay advice from teachers who know them well. If there is no noticeable difference in your essay after removing the sentence, then the sentence is not integral to the rest of the essay, and it can be removed. Limit your conclusion to no more than three sentences.

The Admission Essay
The Admission Essay I have also become an individualist who tries to defy the conformism around him. This sense of clarity I received, was due in part to Pride and Prejudice because even though it did not provide me with the answers to my questions, it had given me a sense of self awareness. Until recently, I felt little obligation to involve myself in any substantive way with humanity as a whole. Before I had defined this connection as one of my most important values, I experimented with various methods of separation. In bursts of inspiration I would âhomeschoolâ myself, withdrawing into seclusion. I liked to learn by tinkering and building things. The Book Thief introduces a myriad cast of characters and thrusts them into the polarizing world of Nazi Germany. Not one of the bookâs characters can be defined in terms of âgoodâ and âevil,â or ârightâ and âwrong.â Rather, they are all unequivocally human, for better or for worse. The one absolute truth to our existence is the divide between life and deathâ"and, some may argue that death is the only cessation of our humanity. I am forever grateful to Pride and Prejudice for reigniting the passion for reading I had lost in middle school. The move to Texas was one of the hardest transitions in my life as I was greeted with a culture shock and had to reinvent myself. I read books about agriculture, built a chicken coop and a garden, and even slept outside in my familyâs field. I found these methods of occupying my time to be more fulfilling than the types of entertainment, namely social media, being employed by those around me. In my eyes it didnât matter what I said because I was right and they were wrong. The Book Thief refuses to flee from this ambiguity. Instead, the characters within its pages are mixtures of everything and its opposite. The storyâs protagonist, Liesel Meminger, learns this lesson through her experiences in Nazi Germany, a place and time in which we are often inclined to believe that good and evil existed as separate entities. The notion that prejudice clouds perception was a truth that I donât imagine Iâd have come to as early without the help of Austen and it made me wonder how much more I could learn from reading. After that I became obsessed with reading, falling into my old habits of staying up late to read the last chapter, staying in to read at lunch, and going to the library every weekend. Check out successful essays from current Johnnies. Thereâs no one right thing to say in an essay, but these Johnnies may be a source of inspiration. However, in their extremity, they were defense mechanisms against the demands of the world, and they were not sustainable. In trying to cultivate my own separate reality, concerned predominantly with my own experience, I became drained and depressed. In California my peers and I had shared the same views. We were all so liberal which at the time felt like a blessing, but when I got to Texas it seemed as though everywhere I went my ideas were challenged. On an almost daily basis I was asked to defend my views on a subject, but my debating skills were limited to logical fallacies and ad hominem attacks so I wasnât too successful. On several occasions throughout my childhood, I decided to become a âscholar;â I would hole myself up with books that I couldnât quite understand and pore over the pages until my eyes ached. Reading allowed me to feel connected with important ideas and values that were scarce in my surroundings. These endeavors were formative, and I do not regret them.

19 Best Admissions Essay Images
19 Best Admissions Essay Images Sometimes students neglect to copy over their entire essay into an application and only submit a portion of their work. When Warren was asked about haphazard mistakes students make, he recounted one college essay example. I began to appreciate the nuances of a personâs writing style, how diction, syntax, sentence length, and dialogue could play together like chemicals and making a book simmer, bubble, foam, or explode. And an appreciation for the finer point of writing has widened the genres I readâ"from fantasy to classics, autobiographies to mysteries, nonfiction to adventure and beyond. I still read voraciously, but now I read deeply as well. In middle school my two favorite book series were Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. In your essay, remember to be yourself and speak in your voice. Easily avoidable mistakes, like not checking that the entire essay is copied into the application, can harm your application prospects. When an admissions officer doesn't get the whole story or notices a sloppy mistake, it changes how schools perceive you. My parents couldnât figure out why I had suddenly become afraid of the dark until they realized that I was only asking they keep the closet light on so I could stay up all night and read. I loved Junie Bâs adventurous spirit and offbeat humor. And most of all, I loved that she was a loud-mouth like me. Like Junie B, I knew what I wanted and I was always ready to ask for it. Know that many top-tier admissions essays have gone through 7-10 drafts before you have had a chance to read them. Is there a way to find out what essay questions colleges are asking before you start the application process? Would it relieve some of your stress, or help you focus your search on fewer colleges, if you knew what essays you'll have to write? You can also ask someone else to proofread your essay for you. Asking a teacher, parent, or older sibling is probably the best way to go, since they might be more familiar with what's expected from college admissions essays. Describing tone, syntax, and diction, a task once painful for me, became simple as I practiced sub-vocalization. I simply slowed down and tried to hear the words in my head. I once condemned poetry as a pretentious and boring, but I realized I was reading poetry completely wrong. You have to slow down to appreciate how the words sounds, how they flow into each other and then slowly drift away. I even began to write poetry, after years of telling myself that I was destined to write prose and prose only for the rest of my life. At a recent student retreat, everyone in my class was asked to draw a timeline of our lives. There are a lot of ways I could break up my life timeline, from states I lived in to schools Iâve attended, but I could also break it up by my favorite book . In first grade, my mother bought me the first five Junie B. Jones books, and I was hooked. What I found so appealing about her character was how unapologetic she was about her oddities. When the other students at Hogwarts made fun of her and called her names she responded with kindness, because she knew in her heart she was brave and smart, and didnât seek anyone elseâs approval. I drew on her strength often during the rough and awkward moments of middle school. Start early.Make a list of the number of essays you need to write and their deadlines. Give yourself plenty of time to think through the topics and brainstorm writing points. Some universities will give you specific prompts to answer. Others will ask you to tell your story and how it led you to university. No matter what the university asks you to write in your submission, remember that admissions officials are not simply looking for your ability to use big, frilly words. When you're finished writing your admissions essay, it's important to proofread your material. Running your essay through spell check is important, and having someone you trust read your essay to catch other small mistakes is even better. Admissions officers generally won't dock minor mistakes in punctuation, but grammatical errors always look sloppy. For the first time I could remember, a book had challenged me. I started reading more actively, highlighting and noting in the corners. Iâll admit, I was a strange child, and my parents called me spaced cadet because I spent so much time staring off into the air, unknown stories forming behind my eyes. Luna was weird, probably even a little weirder than me. She thought wrackspurts caused distracted thoughts and read the tabloid magazine of the Harry Potter word,The Quibbler.

Writing Tips
Writing Tips While you may be able to incorporate similar material from one essay to the next, be careful with your formatting and proofreading if you do any copy/pasting. A good way to tie this into your essay is to focus on your schoolâs motto. Buy Admissions Essay But at times I still had to emotionally support my mom to avoid sudden India trips, or put my siblings to bed if my parents werenât home at night. Over time, I found it difficult being my familyâs glue. I wanted back the family I had before the restaurant--the one that ate Luchi Mongsho together every Sunday night. Over the next two years, things were at times still hard, but gradually improved. My parents decided to start anew, took some time apart, then got back together. Sophomore year, I started an engineering club and found that I had a talent for managing people and encouraging them to create an idea even if it failed. I also learned how to take feedback and become more resilient. Here, I could nerd-out about warp drives and the possibility of anti-matter without being ignored. I would give a weekly report on new technology and we would have hour-long conversations about the various uses a blacker material could have. I began spending more time in our garage, carefully constructing planes from sheets of foam. That must be why I always had to be the one to approach people during my volunteer hours at the public library to offer help--no one ever asked me for it. I resolved to alter my mindset, taking a new approach to the way I lived. From now on I would emphasize qualitative experiences over quantitative skills. Despite knowing how to execute these very particular tasks, I currently fail to understand how to change a tire, how to do my taxes efficiently, or how to obtain a good insurance policy. A factory-model school system that has been left essentially unchanged for nearly a century has been the driving force in my educational development. As I was rejected from StuGo for the second year in a row, I discovered I had been wrongfully measuring my life through numbers--my football statistics, my test scores, my age, my height (Iâm short). I had the epiphany that oh wait, maybe it was my fault that I had never prioritized communication skills, or open-mindedness . I was always scared of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda. My school was part of the US Consulate in Dhahran, and when I was in the 8th grade it was threatened by ISIS. In high school, I slowly began to forge a community of creators with my peers. I found purpose balancing the fuselage or leveling the ailerons to precisely 90 degrees. I loved cutting new parts and assembling them perfectly. Making my teammate smile even though heâs in pain. These are the moments I hold onto, the ones that define who I am, and who I want to be. For me, time isnât just seconds ticking by on a clock, itâs how I measure what matters. â The thought screams through my mind as I carry a sobbing girl on my back across campus in search of an ice pack and ankle wrap. She had just fallen while performing, and I could relate to the pain and fear in her eyes. My mom started to pick me up from activities on time and my dad and I bonded more, watching Warriors and 49ers games. Not long ago, I would have fallen apart at the presence of any uncertainty. As I further accept and advance new life skills, the more I realize how much remains uncertain in the world. After all, it is quite possible my future job doesnât exist yet, and thatâs okay. I canât conceivably plan out my entire life at the age of 17, but what I can do is prepare myself to take on the unknown, doing my best to accompany others. Hopefully, my wings continue enabling me to fly, but it is going to take more than just me and my wings; I have to continue putting my faith in the air around me. After 14 years of living in a region destroyed by violence, I was sent away to boarding school in a region known for peace, Switzerland. That year my father was found guilty and imprisoned for the charges related to his Army support contract. I felt as if I was Edgar in Shakespeareâs King Lear and this could not get worse, but yet it did. Saudi Arabia in the 2000s wasnât the most ideal place to grow up. One of my friends, John, gave me advice on how to help my mother emotionally by showing her love, something I hadnât been able to do before. My friends gave me a family and a home, when my own family was overwhelmed and my home was gone.

Molecular Techniques Detecting Identifying Various Microbes - 1375 Words
Advanced Molecular Techniques Of Detecting And Identifying Various Microbes (Essay Sample) Content: Molecular MicrobiologyName of Student:Course:Instructor:Institution of Affiliation:Department:Date:IntroductionThe new discoveries have been ongoing in an attempt to come up with advanced molecular techniques of detecting and identifying various microbes responsible for the various diseases more particularly the zoonotic diseases. Among the contributing factors to these advancements is the fact that these dangerous pathogens are frequently undergoing mutations thus making some of the techniques unsatisfactory and inconclusive while identifying the pathogens. This paper will discuss into details the potential benefits and setbacks of some molecular technologies in the identification of diseases spread between humans and animals by parasites, the pathogenic fungi, bacteria, and viruses (Dunn 2010, p. 16).The (MLVA) Multiple-Locus Variable number tandem repeat Analysis is a molecular typing technique used to identify specific microorganisms (Barco, Barrucci, Olsen and Ri cci 2013, p. 198). The procedure employs the natural variations in a tandem repeated in the DNA sequence found in different loci of the genes of different organisms. The technique is as well used for the assessment of bacterial molecular fingerprinting in the study of the transmission routes, to evaluate the causes of disease infection and the probable interventions such as the development of vaccinations and antibiotics against the zoonotic microbes (Keim et al. 2000, p. 2931).The main benefits of MLVA that have impacted the public health sector significantly are that the technique is faster and safer in that it reduced the handling of live pathogenic bacteria when typing for these microorganisms (Graziani et al. 2008, p. 416). Similarly, the procedure considerably reduces the average typing time. MLVA as well provides a high resolution which is helpful in the determination of large and exceptionally complex outbreak analysis (Nadon et al. 2013, p 20565). The procedure is as well a pplicable in the large-scale automation by the use of state of the earth apparatus such as the automated sequencers fitted with the analytical software and the high-powered pipetting robots. The main disadvantages of this technique are that each organism requires a separate MLVA assay and the lack of the proper standardization for most of the published assays (Tiller et al. 2009, p. 2228).The (MLST) Multi-locus sequence method of typing is a molecular procedure used in the characterization of bacterial isolates by use of the gene sequences usually the common seven house-keeping genes. The technique is centered on the principle that utilizes the multi-locus enzyme electrophoresis; however, the technology is different in that it allocates alleles within the multiple house-keeping loci through the process of DNA sequencing, instead of an indirect approach to electrophoretic mobility of the gene. The main benefits of this procedure are that the acquired profiles of the alleles can be ea sily related to the database that can be found on the internet that is contrasting to the typing methods which only compare the DNA fragment on the gel (Sabat, et al. 2013, p. 2038).Similarly, the gene profiles comparison can as well be attained from the clinical material of the PCR amplification directly from either CSF or blood; therefore, the isolates can be characterized even if the pathogen strains in question cannot be isolated. The limitations of this technique are that even though the method seems to be the best, it is very expensive to perform. Similarly, MLST occasionally lacks the power to distinguish the various bacterial strains, and this limits its practical use in the epidemiological examinations. However, to improve on the power discrimination of different isolates when using MLST, a new technique known as Multi-virulence-locus sequence typing has been established by use of Listeria mono-cytogenetic. The MVLST increases the advantages of MLST. However, the method onl y targets the virulence genes of which the majorities are more polymorphic rather than the housekeeping genes (Gilmour et al. 2013, p. 5). The (WGS) whole genome sequencing equally recognized as the complete genome sequencing procedure is a technique used to establish an entire DNA sequence in both human beings as well as the genomes of the pathogenic micro-organism. This process involves sequencing all chromosomal DNA of an organism and the DNA within the mitochondria. The Benefits of these techniques is that it can be possible to create a personalized plan and treating a zoonotic disease is possible basing on both the mutant genes causing the disease and the patients gene. The benefits of this approach are that it is feasible to understand the misrelated genes through genotyping the cancer cells thus selecting the best medication which exposes the patient to less toxic chemotherapy. Similarly, through (WGS) the unknown genes can be fully recognized contrary to the traditional mole cular techniques which examine the trouble maker genes (Brinkman et al. 2013, p. 566). Lastly, gene predisposition due to the environmental variations can be without difficulty identified and moderated. The potential disadvantages of (GWS) are that the roles of a majority of the genes in the human genome are unknown with little or minimal understanding. Thus, most of the information obtained by studying the human genome is impracticable. Similarly, most of the technicians are not proficient in the interpretation of genomic data because the amount of information in the genome is too much and the measures of maintaining the safety of this genomic information are still new. Besides, the patients genome might have information that is unnecessary to the physicians, for instance, the patient whose genome sequencing is performed to establish the effective treatment for the high amount of cholesterol. The researchers may ascertain an entirely unrelated allele of a terminal disease without a n effective treatment (Brinkman et al. 2013, p. 569). The (PFGE) Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis technique is a method used by researchers to come up with a DNA fingerprint for the zoonotic a bacterial isolate (Noller et al. 2003, p. 678). The main advantages of this approach are that it can be utilized as a general generic subtyping process for various with the restriction of the enzyme as well as electrophoresis optimization of each bacterial species. The technique as well is capable of producing stable DNA restriction patterns which can be reproduced. Moreover, the PFGE method has a high discriminating power as compared to other methods like the ribotyping or the multi-locus sequence typing. Despite the outstanding advantages, the technique as well has its setbacks; first to carry out the whole procedure of PFGE is time-consuming and not all isolates especially those which are unrelated can be discriminated by this procedure (MacCannell 2013, p. 631). Besides, the DNA restrictio n of the isolates patterns in question do at times vary between the technicians, the PFGE as well does not optimize the separation of every part in the gel instantaneously. In PFGE, the bands that contain the same size might not be able to come from one point of the chromosome of the pathogen that is being investigated. The other limitations of this technique are that this approach cannot establish some pathogen strains. Finally, this method cannot differentiate the isolated under investigation to the same degree (Gui and Patel 2011, p. 1).Pulse Net is a network currently made of 83 international public health laboratories as well as those of food regulatory. This network brings together people from different parts of the globe more particularly those who have been exposed to pathogenic microbes or those who ate contaminated food. The benefits of Pulse Net are that they help the researchers to determine places where the food safety procedures have failed and developed appropriate so lutions that can stop future illnesses. Similarly, Pulse Net has in a great deal helped the scientists to determine if a disease outbreak is or will occurring, the network greatly allows the state departments to identify disease outbreaks and the causative agents in a very short period (Swaminathan et al. 2006, p 39). Besides, the epidemiologists across the globe utilize the information from Pulse Net to help in determine what exactly is causing sickness in people. The organization as well works with the public health governing agencies, like (FDA) Food and Drug Administration in the U.S and the Agricultural Department of U.S Food Safety. The Inspection Service (USDA/FSIS), in establishing solutions to terminate zoonotic disease outbreaks and coming up with the way of averting the situation (Gerner-Smidt et al. 2006, p. 16). However, Pulse Net is facing many challenges, first, due to limited funds and the shrinking of the state budgets; the Pulse Net activities have significantly be en affected. Similarly, the insufficient staffing in a...

Start with something attention grapping ââ¬â a quote maybe with some music. The meaning of the poem is that the speaker in the poem took the road less travelled and his is regretting it. The Tragic Hero Of Euripides Medea - 1080 Words
Nafisa Asad Honors English II Melie Period 5 Tragic Hero in Euripidesââ¬â¢ Medea Aristotle cites that, A man cannot become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall. Consistent to Aristotleââ¬â¢s characteristics of a tragic hero, the tragic hero must fit the requirements of being noble and employed in a high standing position of society. There should be a tragic flaw that ultimately leads to his downfall, and those reading the play must feel pity for this character as he goes through necessary changes as a result of his flaw. Aristotle illustrates a tragic hero as one who falls from grace into a state of acute misery. In Euripidesââ¬â¢ Medea, the tragic hero is Jason, a man of noble birth who falls from being honored and respected due to a flaw in his character, that flaw being adultery. His adultery leads to terrible outcomes, the deaths of many people, and his loss of all the things he loved. His character is an excellent example of the heroes who rise high, then ultimately fail due to their own nature. By the end of the play he realizes his er rors and becomes negligible. Some may argue that Medea is the tragic hero in the play, but this reasoning is flawed because Medea has no single flaw, she has exuded a sadistic nature from the start, from her actions involving the Golden Fleece to her killing her own offspring. Jason suffers from the fatal flaw of adultery that ultimately destines him for ruin, making it is clear that he serves as the tragic hero in Euripides Show MoreRelatedThe Concept of the Tragic Hero: an Analysis of Jason and Medea in Euripides Medea1442 Words à |à 6 PagesIn ââ¬ËMedeaââ¬â¢, Euripides shows Medea in a new light, as a scorned woman that the audience sympathises with to a certain extent, but also views as a monster due to her act of killing her own children. Competitive Strategy Offshoring and Outsourcing
Question: Discuss about the Competitive Strategy for Offshoring and Outsourcing. Answer: Introduction: In the recent years, the relations across the borders have progressed substantially. The rate at which the countries are integrating is phenomenal. It is possible due to a number of factors and changes in communication, transportation, and technology advancements. The business organizations are also not untouched by the phenomenon of the globalization. The big companies are trying to expand their customer base across different nations. The manufacturing of the product is taking place at an entirely different location from the marketplace. Due to the immense development in the technology, the raw materials, finances and other resources are moving swiftly across different countries (Parker, 2005). Along with it, the local culture and customs is also getting adopted by different nations. In the present scenario, it has become challenging for the organizations to survive without expanding their operations in the overseas market. The cutthroat competition among different companies has als o made it mandatory for the organizations to expand their operations and reduce their dependence their dependence on a single market. However, there are several challenges associated with expanding the operations globally due to the lack of knowledge of the local culture and businesses in that country. The companies often have difficulty to obtain the right amount of knowledge to make informed decisions (Ali and Kaynak, 2012). In this essence, Ghemawat proposed AAA framework that states that the organization can expand their operations overseas through adopting one of the various approaches. In this framework, the three AAAs stands for adaptation, aggregation and arbitrage. In the aggregation strategies, the economies of scale are achieved by standardizing the regional and the global operations. The adaptation strategies are focused on modifying the organizations processes and the offerings to meet the local market needs and arbitrage strategies are designed to exploit the differences in different countries, for instance outsourcing products from countries with low labor costs. According to this framework, the choice of the international expansion strategy is dependent upon the business type. Moreover, the businesses can also select more than one strategy according to the situation. Adaptation The adaptation strategies are focused on adapting the business model of an organization according to the local culture and situations that it better suits the local market preferences. It is commonly used strategy and most of the organization adopts it to penetrate in the local markets. When a business organization modifies the business model according to the local culture and the market demands, it results in easy approval by the consumers (Contractor, Kundu and Hsu, 2003). The adaptation strategy encompasses five characteristics, namely, variation, focus, externalization and innovation. In the variation strategy, the business organizations create modifies their products or the services offered. For example, in the food and beverage industry, the companies modify their food products to suit the local taste. Along with it, they also change the business model according to the local legislations, policies and adapt their profit expectations according to the local markets. Several compa nies in the IT industry also adapt their business models and IT infrastructure to suit the privacy laws of the foreign countries. The focus strategy is based on emphasizing on particular products, or the stages of value chain to minimize the impact of different culture and geographical location. In the externalization strategy, the companies expand into different countries by developing strategic alliances or franchising. Several technology based companies are using strategic alliance to enter into new markets and reduce the impact of culture in their operations. In the design strategy, the companies design their business model to include flexibility combat supply chain differences (Rugman Verbeke, 2004). In the recent years, the IT (Information Technology) industry has observed phenomenal growth. IBM is considered as one of the oldest and most successful IT business organization in the world. It has adopted the market expansion strategy of adaption. The company has established an independent center in each country that manages, performs and controls all the business activities in those geographical locations. These independent entities have well-adapted to the local culture (Hoffmann, 2011). In innovation strategy, the companies create new products according to the local culture. In the food and the beverages industry, the companies are also trying to extend into the foreign markets by following one of two strategies. For example, Coke has utilized the strategy of adaptation to establish itself in the foreign markets of India and China. Like most multinational companies, Coke entered to skim the wealthier customers who were willing to pay higher prices for their product. In order to penetrate the market and expand its customer base, coke made a major repositioning strategy. The company lowered its prices, and margins, reduced their costs in the distribution and production. In addition to it, the company also reduced the profit margins per unit. It increased the availability of the products in the rural areas. The companies using adaptation have country-centered organization culture. In order to enter into the foreign markets, the companies are required to adapt their local culture for easy integration. In the adaptation strategy, the companies create competitive advantage by creating relevance to the local culture and exploiting economy of scale (Ghemawat, 2013). Furthermore, the companies prefer globalization in the countries wherein the local culture is similar to the foreign countries. It is done in order to reduce the impact of cultural and economic distance. Similarly, when McDonalds entered in Japan, it introduced several dishes which suited the local taste. For instance, it introduced Teriyaki burger which used the local favorite the seaweed powder (Betros, 2014; Tihanyi, et al. 2015). Similarly, when entering in other countries, the company adapts its menu and dishes according to the local taste. Aggregation The aggregation strategies are focused on creating efficiency in the business operations and the economy of scale by integrating operations across the boundaries. In aggregation, generally, the value proposition is created in assembly, production or the development processes. The companies establish a competitive advantage by purchasing raw materials and manufacturing where the relative costs of the raw materials labor is low. The primary aim of the aggregation strategies is to exploit the differences between different countries rather than adapting to them. The aggregation strategies aim towards complete standardization but do not attain it as will contradict the adaptation approaches. Therefore, in this approach, the companies identify economies of scale and scope without profits without sacrificing the local responsiveness (Kluyver, 2010). As discussed above, IBM has used adaptation strategy for global expansion; however, recently, when IBM observed that adaptation into the local culture is hindering the global expansion opportunities, it aggregated the operations in different countries to increase the economy of scale. The operations were shifted to the places where the operation costs were less and other functions were reduced to the places where the costs were low. In this way, the company enhanced its economy of scale. Geographical differences is not the only approach to obtain economies of scale in the aggregation strategies, the cultural, administrative, geographic and economic (CAGE) factors are also crucial in the aggregation strategies. Several organizations achieve globalization through aggregation strategies. In this strategy, the most challenging aspect is to create both profitability and competitive advantage. The companies in the IT industry focusing on research and development commonly uses aggregation strategy for expanding their operations. In this strategy, the IT companies deliver economies of scale by standardizing the product offering and segregating the production and the development processes. The companies pursue globalization if their primary objective is to create cross-border groupings such as between the business structure, production units or global accounts. The vertical organizations or the organizations that deals with creating a balance between the supply and the demand often use this strategy. In aggregation strategies, the companies create coordination with the supply chain managers, local managers, and regional leaders for establishing economy of scale (Gooderham, Gooderham and Grgaard, 2013). TCS has used aggregation strategy to achieve economy of scale. It has built three centers, global software development centers with highly skilled staff and in-depth knowledge. Several regional centers are also developed in Brazil and Hungary to address the cultural and the language challenges. Along with it, the near shore centers are also developed in the countries where the major clients exist to increase the customer comfort and relations. Excessive control is required in the production process for standardization of the production. The arbitrage is also common strategy in cross-border investments and manufacturing of specialized products. Arbitrage The third generic strategy to achieve globalization is the arbitrage strategy. In the arbitrage strategy, the companies exploit the differences in different geographical locations instead of adapting and bridging them. It refers to the classic global strategy of buying in one market and selling in another (Mudambi Venzin, 2010). In the present context, the offshoring and the outsourcing processes are also considered as a part of the arbitrage strategy. The offshoring process in the IT industry is the most common example of arbitrage. In this strategy, the companies create economies of scale by creating differentiation with the customers, improved relations with suppliers and the local authorities, and minimizing the risk associated with the supply chain and creating and sharing knowledge. The CAGE framework is useful in this strategy since it is focused on exploiting the difference between different countries. It is often observed, that companies get favorable results on the basis o f the origin of the organization. For example, the association with France is favorable to the success in the international markets in perfumes, wines and fashion industry (Spirig, 2011). The legal and the political differences between the countries can also create opportunities for administrative arbitrage. The companies often use it to reduce their local tax liabilities. An example in the IT industry is the Indian IT company Tata Consultancy Services which has adopted the strategy of arbitrage to expand its operation globally. In this strategy, it has started exporting the IT software services to the countries with high labor costs such as the USA and European countries. However, it has also adopted the strategy of aggregation along with the arbitrage strategy. The geographical arbitrage refers to the reduced cost in the transportation and communication. With the technological advancements, the shipping costs have reduced substantially. Moreover, the companies are also sending doc uments and information electronically to other geographical location for cheaper costs. An example is the hospitals in the USA that sends X-Rays and medical documents in India for cheap interpretation. In the economic arbitrage, the companies exploit the labor costs. It is very popular in labor intensive (garments companies). The call centers in India, factories in China and development of retail shops in Western Europe is considered a part of the arbitrage strategy (Morschett, Schramm-Klein and Zentes, 2015). Therefore, it can be stated that in arbitration strategy, the competitive advantage is achieved through internationalization specialization. The companies establish separate units at different geographical locations to exploit the differences. In such organizations, the coordination is achieved through vertical coordination at different functional department. Conclusion The business leaders use one or two strategies in the AAA framework to expand their operations globally. All the strategies are beneficial in some aspects and can prove to be lucrative. However, among all these strategies, there are several challenges and tensions. Therefore, it is important that the business leaders select the expansion strategy according to their business. It can be concluded that in the present era of globalization, it is important for the companies to follow one or more globalization strategy to establish market at foreign countries. The business organizations expand their operations in different countries due to one of more intent; however, the fundamental is to achieve economies of scale through expansion. Ghemawat has proposed AAA framework that encompasses the strategies used by different companies for expanding their operations globally. The AAA framework stands for adaptation, aggregation and arbitrage strategies. In the adaptation strategy, the companies t ry to adapt themselves to the local culture. The modification can be in terms of the product of the service offerings or business model. For instance, IBM has used the adaptation strategy to create self-governing business entities in different countries which work independently with alignment to the local culture. Similarly, Coke has also adapted the product offering according to the characteristics of the local markets. While entering the foreign markets of India and China, the primary aim of the company was to skim the affluent class who were already familiar with the product. However, it expanded its market by reducing the cost and increasing availability. In the aggregation strategy, the company tries to bridge the gaps and differences resulting due to different geographical locations. In the arbitrage strategy, the companies exploit the gap and differences arising from different culture or geographical locations. It can be recommended that a business organization should select the global expansion strategy according to the firm type or the industry wherein it operates. The companies working in labor-intensive companies should adopt the strategy of arbitrage. The companies which are focusing on developing target markets in different countries should focus on adaptation strategies. References Ali, A.J. and Kaynak, E. (2012).
